Does Social Media have an effect in the real world?

Thought I would share this with the Social Media Learning Institute Community. Great article on social media's impact on the real world.

Article by : Lauren Fisher

There’s been a bit of debate lately, about the real effect that social media can have and whether it’s just a place to talk about doing things, rather than doing them.  Hot on the debate is an article by  Malcolm Gladwell, where he claimed that the ‘revolution will not be tweeted’. He examined whether social media could really impact on various aspects of activism. Social media didn’t come off too favourably, but the question mark remains. There is no shortage of conversation on social media, but can this really transform into a meaningful action?
